eBook Description:
The second edition of this Atlas allows us to respond to many comments received over the past fourteen years of its active life. It has received both praise and constructive criticism. In this second edition, we have made numerous improvements in micrographs and text that we believe will enhance the usefulness this book has already demonstrated in the classroom. In particular, we have completely revised the section on the central nervous system, thereby providing students of neuroscience with a complete set of labeled sections useful for both undergraduate and medical courses. We have rewritten all introductory sections to bring them up to date both structurally and functionally. In addition, all figure legends have been carefully rechecked for accuracy and additions and deletions have been made as required.
The original intent of this book remains the same in this second edition. The student is our foremost consideration. The Atlas’ function is classroom-oriented, it supplements but does not replace textbooks heavily weighted towards electron microscopy, it provides concise structural/functional correlations, and all structures are clearly and directly identified and labeled for easy and precise use.
The two original authors of this Atlas have welcomed another colleague to assist in this latest effort. Paul M. Heidger, Jr., Ph.D., brings expertise in several areas of histology and cell biology, and his touch can be found throughout the Atlas’ pages.
